Be flexible about dates when searching probate calendars for wills
I loved Paul and Maggie’s guide to tracking down wills in Ireland from 1858.
One thing that struck a chord with me was their reminder that probate was sometimes a complicated business and not granted until long after someone’s death ( page 61). I have certainly found that to be the case in my own research. So when searching probate calendars, remember that it may have taken decades to settle your ancestor’s affairs.
