National Records of Scotland is working on the digital release of an initial 6,000 volumes of unindexed church records. The team plans to add new volumes and types of record throughout 2021. Alongside the annual release of statutory registers in January, it will be improving search indexes by populating mothers’ maiden names from 1855 to 1890 on statutory death records, expanding this data up to 1920 during 2021. It will also be adding maps and plans, focusing on coasts and waterways, and improving access to collections of images – plus, watch out for the announcement of the release of the 1921 census.
