Findmypast adds records from Coventry Blitz
Almost 2,500 records of the victims of Coventry’s devastating Second World War air raids have now been published on Findmypast ( findmypast.co.uk).
The release commemorated the 80th anniversary of one of the worst attacks, which took place on 14–15 November 1940. They include the names and addresses of those killed or injured in the raids.
Coventry was targeted by the Luftwaffe multiple times in 1940 and 1941, because it was home to important munitions factories.
In the 14–15 November raid alone, German planes dropped about 500 tons of high explosive, 30,000 incendiaries and 50 landmines. Roughly 680 people were wounded, 176 people died and the city’s 14th-century cathedral was destroyed.
