The archive is located in one of the four local libraries in Dumfries, where it looks after the records of Dumfries and Galloway Council and its predecesso­rs (from 1425), the local health board and its predecesso­rs (from 1775), and archives dating back to 1418. Artefacts at the museum include stone carvings by Scotland’s first Christians, and everyday items from the Victorian farm, workshop and home. You can also visit a camera obscura located on the top floor of the windmill tower, which has been in continuous operation since 1836.
