Just as we were going to press Findmypast announced the release date for the 1921 England and Wales census (see page 11). It is big news for us all, and we’ll be offering tips and context to the census over the next few issues.

The other big news this month is that we are launching our first ever Family Photo Competition on page 16. I so enjoyed going through my family albums to supply the images we have used on those pages. It made me look again at photographs I haven’t thought about for years. I hope it will inspire all of you to look through any old albums that have been passed down your family, and share your favourite images with us. You might even win £200 and get a new framed print of your winning photograph.

Christmas is a time for giving, so we’ve put together lots of different ways you can share your research this year. Whether you choose one of the 12 ideas selected by Chris Paton (see page 19), decide to make a film of a family member talking about their life (see page 32) or fancy creating a slideshow that will wow your family (see page 60), we’ve got it covered. We would love to know how you get on.

Finally, do come along to THE Genealogy Show’s Winter Event on 3–5 December (see page 9). There are some great talks lined up and we will be there too, so please pay a visit to our virtual stand in the

Exhibition Zone and sayy hello. Have a lovely Christmas everyone!
