Community groups receive awards
The winners of the 2021 Community Archives and Heritage Group awards have been announced.
The Leavesden Hospital History Association ( leavesdenhospital.org) won the overall ‘Best Community Archive and Heritage Group’ award. It also triumphed in the ‘Gathering and Preserving Heritage’ category.
The association preserves the history of Leavesden Asylum/Hospital, St Pancras Orphanage, the Canadian Hospital, Abbots Langley General Hospital and the Springfield Special Needs School. All of them occupied the site of Leavesden Country Park in Hertfordshire.
The judges of the competition praised the association for its work on cemetery restoration and audience engagement.
Clements Hall Local History Group ( clementshallhistorygroup.org.uk) in York won the ‘Community Engagement’ category, while Age Cymru Dyfed topped the ‘Contribution to Wellbeing’ category for its West Wales Veterans’ Archive ( westwalesveteransarchive.com).
