Database remembers Irish soldiers who died in WW1
A new online database commemorates 31,384 Irish soldiers who died in the First World War. The free Irish Great War Dead Archive ( irelandsgreatwardead.ie) was launched by Tipperary Studies on Remembrance Day. It brings together
20 years of work by military historian Tom Burnell. The records include each h man’s rank, regiment or service, date and cause of death, and place of burial. The site will be updated with further records, including those of servicemen from what is now Northern Ireland. The site also features photos such as a commemorative penny (right) and details of all of the servicemen’s gravestones in County Tipperary.
