Findmypast’s RAF material includes the original muster roll from 1918 containing 181,000 records, and (pictured) service records from AIR 79 at TNA. These document men with service numbers from 1 to 562875, normally detailing dates of birth and joining, units served in, medals and promotions, as well as next of kin and a physical description. Keep in mind that if a service number is between 313001 and 316000, then your ancestor served with the Royal Navy and Royal Naval Air Service before transferring to the RAF. So further records may reside in Royal Navy collections.
