FamilySearch
Uncover baptisms, marriages and burials
PROJECT OVERVIEW
We’re continuing our partnership with FamilySearch ( familysearch.org), the biggest family history website in the world, and helping to transcribe parish registers from different English counties in addition to Scottish and Irish Catholic church records. Parish records are the only means of tracing our ancestors’ births, marriages and deaths before the introduction of civil registration on 1 July 1837, and FamilySearch transcriptions are crucial to putting them online.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
You will view digitised images of baptism, marriage and burial records and transcribe the relevant details, including each individual’s name and age, the date, and the names of other people who are mentioned such as their parents or spouse.
HOW DO I TAKE PART?
Simply visit familysearch.org/indexing and choose the project you want to help. You will need to create a free FamilySearch account if you don’t already have one.
