HMS NHS: The Nautical Health Service Statistics
Transcribe records from the Seamen’s Hospital
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Between 1821 and 1986 the Seamen’s Hospital at Greenwich provided medical care to sailors from anywhere in the world who reached London suffering from sickness or injury. HMS NHS, a project run by Royal Museums Greenwich, wants to transcribe the hospital registers to provide historic data on the health of the maritime community.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
You will have to select a ‘Workflow’, referring to a specific column in the record book, and then transcribe the data in every line of that column on the page. The transcription project is currently completing the final stage of Part One, covering records from 1826 to 1869, but Part Two, for records dating between 1870 and 1930, will launch on the day of Transcription Tuesday.
