Ruth explains how you can search British newspapers, including free pages, on Findmypast.co.uk
Step One Visit findmypast.co.uk and select ‘Search’ and ‘Newspapers and periodicals’. Type your ancestor’s first name and surname into the search box(es). You will probably see a large number of results – in this case 17.
Step Two Reduce the number of results by choosing one or more of the available filters, eg type of article, region, place, the name of the newspaper, access (free to view, or paid for), and – as here – date range.
Step Three Reading through the brief details of each result should allow you to identify those that are most likely to refer to your relation. Click to read the full article (you may need to subscribe/pay for access).
