The 1851 Census
Joe found Robert Wilkinson in the 1851 census of England and Wales living with his grandparents in the place of his birth, St Ives in Cambridgeshire. Although he was only 10 years old we know that he had already started work because he is listed as a chimney sweep. Census returns are available on all of the major genealogical websites; the exception is the newly released 1921 census of England and Wales, which is exclusive to Findmypast (see page 28). We found Robert’s return on TheGenealogist ( thegenealogist.co. uk), and subscribers to the website can view the record here: tinyurl.com/the ggenealogist-g1851-wilkinson.
