DON’T JUST RELY ON GLOBAL SEARCHES

Sometimes searching records by category on your favourite subscription website offers you more options to refine the results.

On Ancestry ( ancestry.co.uk), click on ‘Search’ in the top bar and then go to the ‘Card Catalogue’ where you can search for collections. On Findmypast ( findmypast.co.uk) go to ‘Search’ and choose ‘All record sets’. You will then be given search options specific to the collection which could narrow down results.
