Who Do You Think You Are?

1921 CENSUS SEARCH TIPS

-

1 Use ‘Advanced Search’

Findmypast’s powerful ‘Advanced Search’ facility lets you add details to reduce irrelevant results. You can specify birthplace, occupation, address and other household members, among other options.

2 Select ‘Extra (Address)’

It’s not worth paying £2.50 to view a transcription when you can see the image for £3.50. Selecting ‘Extra (Address)’ will give the address plus any extra pages, and includes the enumerator’s map and route.

3 Compare Handwriting

If you can find someone in the 1911 census but not in 1921, check how they filled it in. Imagine how a transcriber or OCR might misread their handwriting, and search for that name in the 1921 census.
