ITALIAN SCRIPT TUTORIAL

-

script.byu.edu/Pages/the-italian-documents/the-italian-documents(english) This tutorial from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Brigham Young University is a great place to familiarise yourself with Italian record-keeping. If you’re about to dive into handwritten records and feel overwhelmed at the thought, just read up on numbers, given names and abbreviations. There are illustrated examples of acronyms and contractions, including shortened forms of common names. For example, Francesco will often be shortened to ‘Franco’, while Giovanni Battista becomes ‘Gio Batta’. The latter months of the year are frequently shortened too – for instance Settembre becomes 7bre, and Ottobre becomes 8bre.
