Robert Currie was born in Camlachie, Glasgow, on 19 December 1902, to Irish-born Robert Currie, a prominent member of the Royal Black Preceptory (a Protestant fraternal society) in Glasgow, and Elizabeth Morrow.

Growing up to work as a joiner, Robert junior married on 25 March 1927, but tragically died on 10 February 1929 at 187½ Dalmarnock Road, Bridgeton, Glasgow, the cause being nephrotic cardiac syncope. After I obtained a copy of his death record from the General Register Office in 2002, the next stage was to try to find where he was buried, by contacting Glasgow City Council’s burials department. The council staff suggested that Robert junior was buried at the Eastern Necropolis in an unmarked grave.

However, people do occasionally make mistakes. In this case, a

recent email from MyHeritage ( myheritage.com) flagged up from its hosted BillionGraves collection ( billiongraves.com) that Robert had in fact been buried at the city’s Riddrie Park Cemetery. A visit to the cemetery permitted the headstone to bbe photographed (left), which shshowed a masonic symbol at the totop, and just for good measure, coconfirmed that the burial of his fafather, Robert Currie (1867– 11940), in the same plot.

A subsequent search in the Glasgow G newspapers at the Mitchell M Library noted no death intimation in for young Robert, but b an acknowledgement notice no was carried five days later la in the Evening Times. This was w placed by his parents, and among a those thanked for their “kind attention” was Lodge 245 2 of the Masonic Veterans Associations, A confirming the masonic m link, and thanking the undertakers, Taylor Brothers.
