Police issue advice after break-ins

-

WINDSOR: Police have issued advice on how to stop ‘oppor tunistic crimes’ following a spate of thefts from cars.

The advice includes keeping keys away from doors and making sure vehicles are locked, with no valuables on show.

Thames Valley Police said cars are usually only broken into if coins, electronics, sunglasses or bags are on show.

Workmen have also been advised to take tools out of their vans every night.

Police Sergeant Ryan Powell, of the Problem Solving Team at Thames Valley Police, said: “Those few minutes emptying your van could save you a lot of hassle, cost and rise in everyone’s insurance costs. Following these simple tips could help prevent you becoming a victim of crime.”

Among recent incidents, a man was seen trying car door handles at about 4.45pm on Tuesday in Castle Avenue, Datchet, and at the same time on Monday, a car was entered and searched in Windsor High Street.

On Sunday in Old Windsor, footage from a video doorbell showed a person tampering with the lock of a car, entering it and carrying out a search. A GPS watch was stolen and wires pulled out from the dashboard.

Call police on 101.
