- By Beaconsfield MP Joy Morrissey

This week saw our roadmap of unlocking go from strength to strength as socialising outdoors in groups was permitted once again.

This was luckily timed with glorious sunshine and hot weather which must have come as a bright end to what has been a rather bleak winter for many of us.

The first quarter of this year has certainly been difficult for all of us, but it really is remarkable how for we have come in just three months.

We now have one of the lowest case rates in the world, over half the adult population have received their first vaccination, more and more data proving the efficacy of the vaccines keeps pouring in, and we are well on our way to unlocking all parts of our society.

In light of this I want to take this opportunity to commend your hard work and commitment over the past months to sticking to rules, staying at home, and protecting the NHS.

It’s incredible to see how low cases are now in South Bucks compared to where they were at the New Year’s peak, almost 97 per cent lower in fact!

But I also want to encourage you all to enjoy the fruits of all of your labours.

Enjoy your summer, return to your favourite pubs, restaurants, shops, and salons in two weeks. And please meet up with you loved ones safely with plenty of fresh air.

It is absolutely right that after such a horrible winter we allow ourselves to indulge on the things we have missed so much. And with our world-leading vaccine rollout much of the danger posed by coronavirus to the elderly and vulnerable has now largely passed.

Until then I would urge you all to continue to behave responsibly and continue to follow the rules, and to get a jab when offered. But to also get out there and enjoy the easing of lockdown when and where you can! You deserve it!
