Nation owes Prince ‘extraordinary debt of gratitude’
WINDSOR: Windsor MP Adam Afriyie and the Royal Borough council were among those to pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh following his death on Friday.
The announcement of Prince Philip’s passing led to a great outpouring of emotion across the country and in the borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Adam Afriyie, Windsor MP, said: “My condolences to Her Majesty and family on the passing of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. He will be missed across the Windsor constituency, the country and the globe.”
Mrs May, Maidenhead MP, said: “All my thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty and the whole Royal Family on the loss of a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great g randfather.
“The nation and the entire Commonwealth owe Prince Philip an extraordinary debt of gratitude for a distinguished life of service to the Queen, our country and so many around the world.”
Cllr Andrew Johnson, the Royal Borough council leader, said: “The Duke did a huge amount of charity work which we were very fortunate to witness first-hand in the borough.
“We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family at this sad time.”
Councillor John Story, Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead, added: “He had a long association with the Royal Borough, not only because of Windsor Castle but also The Prince Philip Trust Fund.
“His hard work was recognised by the council in 1995 when he was made an Honorary Freeman of the Borough, the highest honour that can be bestowed on an individual for contributions to a local area.”
