Cooper says Windsor are close to establishing themselves as a top side

-

Despite suffering a 3-0 defeat to Egham Town at the weekend, Mark Cooper believes Windsor FC are ‘close’ to establishing themselves as one of the top sides in the Combined Counties Premier Division North this season.

The Royalists are currently seventh in the table, having won seven of their league matches to date in a topsy-turvy kind of campaign.

They've drawn four times and lost on six occasions, with Cooper now desperate for them to find some consistency as key players return from injury.

After the match, Cooper said the Royalists could learn a thing or two from Egham Town's diligent display, with the boss lauding the visitors' organisation and effort at Stag Meadow.

“They were very organised, they gave us very little, they didn’t make mistakes, and they have got some good, experienced players,” he said.

“Their decision making, and their lack of errors was enviable.

“I thought the first half was very even and there wasn’t much in it all. In a game as tight as that, you can accept coming into half-time at 0-0 and then look to push on when you come back out. But we’ve given them a goal right on half-time and it’s clear to see, it’s come from a huge error.

“We made it very straight forward for them, for their team talk, and I thought they executed it well. They defended deep and hit us on the break. Despite this, I think we are close to being one of the top sides in the division, but we are not quite there yet.”

Cooper added: “Lately, we’ve put together a string of consistent performances and mistakes in crucial moments of the game have become more infrequent. I think we’ve got a good group of players who are fit, hard-working, honest and we have been competitive with a lot of the top sides.

“We will keep working hard, keep the fitness levels high, and just see where that takes us.”
