Magical Sunset has debut to remember at Windsor’s meeting on Monday

-

Magical Sunset made an impressive debut at Windsor’s race meeting on Monday when winning the six-furlong British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

Ridden by Rossa Ryan and trained by Richard Hannon, who has an excellent record at the track, the 14/1 shot defeated 6/5 favourite Sakheer by half a length.

A €340,000 purchase, the filly has future entries in a number of high-profile races, including the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on September 17 and the Group 1 Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket a week later.

Forseeable Future (7/4 favourite) travelled all the way down from Ruth Carr’s yard in North Yorkshire and the 460-mile round trip paid dividends with a win in the Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap. The seven-year-old was following up a victory at Ripon a week earlier.

It was jockey Harry Davies’ 50th win of his career and leaves him top of the apprentice championship for the season which ends at British Champions Day at Ascot on October 15. He also now loses his 5lb claim.

Another apprentice to visit the winner’s enclosure at Windsor was Mohammed Tabti who steered Zhang Fei (6/1) home in the Racing League On Sky

Sports Racing Handicap.

Trained by Paul & Oliver Cole, the four-year-old returned from a 126-day break to win for the first time in 17 starts.

In total contrast, it was four wins in succession for Dora Penny in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap. The 5/6 favourite, who had won at Ffos Las last Thursday, was ridden by David Probert and trained in Wales by David Evans.

Two weeks after finishing eighth of 15 runners when 66/1, Robert Cowell’s Lipsink showed much better form on his return to Windsor to win the five-furlong MPM Flooring And Gemco Contracts Handicap. Ridden by Neil Callan, the 4/1 shot held off the other co-favourite, Treacherous, by three-quarters of a length.

This was Windsor’s last Monday evening meeting of the year but they do race a week on Saturday, August 27, followed by Thursday, September 1.
