Mick felt Royalists deserved much more

Windsor FC: But boss couldn't ‘grumble’ about draw against Wokingham

-

Manager Mick Woodham believes Windsor’s display against Wokingham & Emmbrook, particularly in the first half, was more deserving of three points rather than the 1-1 draw they claimed at Emmbrook Sports and Social Club.

On Saturday, Tyler Robinson fired the Royalists into the lead in the eighth minute, and with the players standing firm and battling well thereafter, they entered the break in a confident mood.

However, once the hosts managed to pull level after the hour mark, things started to unravel for Woodham’s men, and they were forced to dig in and battle hard for a share of the spoils.

As a result, Windsor find themselves in 11th place in the Combined Counties Premier Division North, one point above Edgware & Kingsbury who have three games in hand on them.

“I am sure Wokingham will have their own assessment of the match but, for me, I thought we missed out on all three points,” said Woodham.

“We were very good in the first half, and I wanted us to continue that theme in the second half. But once we conceded, we lost our shape a bit, and lost a bit of what we were very good at doing.

“We were very good, very efficient, very effective. We put the ball into some good areas.

“I suppose a draw is something we can’t grumble about too much but given how good we were in the opening 45 minutes, it was disappointing not to win.”

Woodham isn’t afraid to admit that Windsor are lacking a little experience throughout the team.

Had they a few more older heads in the squad they may well have been able to defend Saturday's lead more competently, however, that doesn't mean the manager has little faith in his players. He's confident they will develop those attributes and progress as the season goes on.

“We’d all like a couple of experienced 30-year-old lads in the team but they, quite rightly, need funding and where we are at the moment, we’re not in a position to offer that,” said Woodham.

“I would like to bring three or four in but it is what it is and we are going to work with what we got. If the boys want to continue learning and developing, they will get a game every week. As soon as they don’t, we will make changes. We will give our players time and be patient with them. We do think we’ve got the right ones.”
