Spirits remain high in Windsor camp
Head coach Andy Symons says spirits are high in the Windsor camp despite their defeat to Aylesbury which leaves them entrenched at the bottom of the Regional 2 Thames League.
On Saturday, the Royals were unlucky to see a ‘great first half’ count for nothing at Home Park as Aylesbury came from behind to win, 20-43.
The result means Symons and his men have now tasted victory once in 10 games – that win coming against Old Haberdashers on home turf last month (October 29).
At full-time, Symons told the Advertiser: “It is such a competitive league. We do have the big teams, the teams likely for promotion, but I do think everyone is really competitive. You’ve just got to be on point on game day I suppose.
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great league to be part of, it’s just very challenging and a bit of a step up for us.
“We’re going about things nicely although our results don’t reflect that. We’re definitely building some momentum internally and got a lot of growth within us, I think.
“I think we played a great first half and the message was continue doing what we were doing. Unfortunately, they had a great maul and operated their lineout very well – Aylesbury came out ready [to turn the game around].”
Windsor now have a week without competitive action to ‘address certain areas’ before they go head-to-head with second-placed Old Priorians.
“We are taking things week by week to be honest,” said Symons.
“We’ve got a week off now so we will get back in training and I’ll plan for the game at a later time.”
