Warriors advance after narrow win over Holyport

-

There was a full slate of fixtures at u12s level in the Thames Valley Football Development

League this weekend, despite the frosty conditions.

Maidenhead Warriors u12s will be pleased they managed to get their game against Holyport FC on as a 1-0 victory carried them through the semi-finals of the league cup.

The two sides were extremely well matched, but a fine goal from

Noah Arena-McDowell proved the difference.

Singh Sabha Lions are also through to the final four after beating Frontline Juniors 4-3 in their quarter final.

Three league fixtures were also played, with Datchet beating Berks Elite 1-0, and Sporttiers cruising to a 5-0 win over S4K Langley Lemurs.

The only game without a goal was the clash between Townmead Youth Whites and Sandgate Reds, which finished goalless, however, the draw was good enough to take Sandgate top of the division, a point ahead of Singh Sabha Lions having played a game less. Top of the table Holyport FC u15s returned to winning ways in the Wycombe and South Bucks Minor Football League as they defeated Risborough Rangers Juniors 4-0.

A highly competitive first half saw Holyport take the lead through goals from Robert Hern and Jakob Godfrey and as Risborough’s legs began to tire more opportunities presented themselves for Port.

Hern grabbed a second goal while Holyport’s final goal came from an excellent long-range shot from Ashraf Ayad. It capped off an excellent display from the midfield which also saw him named man-of-thematch.

Maidenhead Boys & Girls FC were also in action over the weekend, with the u18s Colts losing their EBFA Division 3 clash 4-0 away to Whitegrove & Warfield Tigers.

The u16s Dolphins produced a better display as they won 4-2 away at

NPL Youth Bulls in Division 2 of the EBFA. The u16s Barracudas drew 0-0 with Twyford Comets in Division 5 while the u16s Stingrays were beaten 41 at home by Sandhurst Town Royals in Division 7. At u14s level the Scorpions were narrowly beaten 4-3 away by AFC Henley Hotspurs in EBFA Division 4, while the Wolverines were edged out 6-4 at Whiteknights Tigers in Division 8.

The u13s Missiles blasted into the next round of the EBFA Trophy after a 3-2 penalty shoot-out victory over South Reading. The game finished 2-2.

The u13s Bullets were also victorious, defeating Caversham Trents Whites 3-1 away in Division 8.

The u12s Girls Kestrels were 3-2 winners over Barton Rovers Rosettes in their nine-a-side Division 4 clash.

The u13s Girls Eagles are out of the League

Cup after losing 4-0 away to Burnham Juniors, but there was better news for the u14s Girls Jets who won 2-1 at home against Wargrave Girls Harriers in BCGFL Division 1.

The u14s Sharks were beaten 8-0 away by Penn & Tylers Green in Division 3 while the 15s Girls Mustangs lost 1-0 at home to the Henley Lionesses in Division 3.
