Families are being invited to explore Ancient Egypt at a Museum of Antiques in Eton over the school holidays.

As part of the Totally Chaotic History Museum Trail, Eton College Collections is inviting people free of charge to the museum.

The nationwide initiative helps youngsters discover stories and objects that have withstood the test of time from Ancient Egypt.

The trail, which has been organised in collaboration with Kids in Museums and Walker Books, is set to take place on select dates until Sunday, April 14.

Children will be given activity sheets to guide them through the displays.

Among the highlights of the museum is an array of Egyptian artwork and pottery, as well as an assortment of mummified remains.

The holiday activity has been launched to celebrate the release of new children’s book Totally Chaotic History: Ancient Egypt Gets Unruly, by bestselling author, historian and podcaster Greg Jenner with insights from Egyptologist Dr Campbell Price from Manchester Museum.

Eton is one of 20 museums participating in the trail.

The trail will be open at the Museum of Antiques at Eton College this Sunday from 10am to 12.30pm and from 2.30pm to 5.30pm and on Sunday, April 14 from 2.30pm to 5pm.

Amy Stone, Eton College Collections exhibitions and access co-ordinator, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming families into the Museum of Antiquities for these special openings during the Easter holidays.

“The Totally Chaotic History Museum Trail is a great opportunity for us all to explore the collection and look at it in new ways – I can’t wait to see what people discover.”
