Allanton Parish Church morning service, Discovery club and creche will take place in the church this Sunday at 12.30pm. The church is open each Wednesday afternoon, from 1pm to 3pm for anyone wishing to come along for a quiet time of prayer. Mother and toddlers group meet in the church hall each Tuesday mornings at 9.30am. Karate class is held in the church hall every Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. Street dance classes take place in the church hall each Thursday evening from 6pm to 7pm and 7pm to 8pm, and on Saturday mornings at 10am. Youth group meets in the Senior Citizen Centre every Friday evening from 7pm to 9pm. The William Colquhoun Memorial LOL152 will hold their annual general meeting this Thursday, September 1, in the Senior Citizen Centre at 7pm. Brothers Allan McGregor and David Muir, office bearers will conduct the election of the office bearers. Members should note a parade to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty, the Queen’s birthday will take place on Saturday, September 18. Members will marshall at 4.45pm at the town’s Senior Citizen Centre, where Allanton Flute Band will lead the parade. A harmony will be held in the Senior Citizen Centre after the parade, and entry costs £3 entry at the door. Brother William Clelland requests all members to attend this meeting. Miners’ Social Club entertainm­ent begins with a double session of bingo, play your cards right and a raffle on Thursday with a sportsmans dinner on Friday. Saturday sees a country night featuring Reunion, bingo, play your cards right and raffle, with dancing to Bill McFarlane, bingo, play your cards right, raffle and tote double on Sunday. The club is available to book for private functions.

Harthill

Eastfield and Harthill Flute Orchestra The orchestra hold rehearsals on Sunday afternoons from 4pm in the Benhar Hall, (former school kitchen building), Benhar Road, Eastfield. They are looking for new members who want to learn how to play the flute or ex-members who wish to come back to join the band after a break. The annual flower show takes place in Alexander Peden Primary School on Saturday September 19, doors open at 2.00pm and opening ceremony and presentati­on of prizes by Mrs Sheena Woodhouse of Greenrigg Primary School is at 2.15pm. This will be our 138th flower show so please come along and give your support as all monies made on the day go to charity. Would exhibitors please note that judging begins at 10am prompt could you please if possible have exhibits in by 9.45am
