‘Cup success can help us forget league loss’

Wishaw travel to play Shettleston tonight (Wednesday) in the semi final following victory over Lesmahagow last week.
And McGroarty admits he would love nothing more than a cup final for the club.
He said: “Saturday was incredibly frustrating but the positive for us is that we have the chance to forget about it with the semi final.
“We seem to be reacting to going a goal down which is something we can’t afford to do in big games.
“We beat Shettleston three weeks ago in a friendly but I think they had a few players missing that day and we won’t be taking them lightly.
“It’s going to be a tough game but we’ll be doing all we can to get into the final because it’s massive for us.”
After two semi- final apperances in the past two years, Wishaw will be hoping to go one better this time around.
However, as much as a cup run would benefit the Beltane Park outfit, McGroarty insists his side have not taken their eye off the prize when it comes to league action.
He said: “The last couple of years the timing of the semi-finals weren’t exactly ideal for us.
“Two years ago we were in the West of Scotland semi- final but we were fighting to stay in the league and that was our priority.
“Last year we wanted to get through but were trying to put a lot of focus into the league campaign.
“This time around we have a bigger squad and we’re more capable of doing it but we aren’t forgetting about the league.
“It would be great to get into the final and then we can focus on Saturday’s game against Johnstone Burgh. That’s a huge game for us and we know we weren’t playing at our best last week.”
With no top flight football this Saturday, junior clubs are urging residents to support their local side.
Wishaw Juniors host Johnstone Burgh at Beltane on Saturday at 2pm.
