Social care cuts of huge concern

-

company on the inadequacy of its new timetable as it doesn’t provide for buses at the most important times of the morning or evening to allow people to get to/ from their work.

We will also stressed that the current levels of reliability of the bus service through Salsburgh is totally unacceptable and this needs to be sorted.

The company has promised to look at these issues urgently.

If it doesn’t resolve these issues soon, we will need to look at other ways of ensuring Salsburgh gets the bus service it needs.

Another major concern which is worrying me a great deal these days as your local MSP are the cuts to social care services in North Lanarkshire.

I get a lot of constituents contacting me about the problems they are having with social work.

For example, the ridiculous and unfair charges the council is now imposing on old and disabled people for emergency alarms could put lives at risk.

Also, some people have a better chance of winning the lottery than they have of getting a wet floor shower from the council, even when they badly need one. The number of disabled people who have had their care budgets slashed by the council is also unacceptable. Without the help of their carers these people couldn’t cope by themselves.

We all recognise the pressure councils are under because of the Tory cuts but when it comes to making decisions about what to cut, social care services need to be protected as a top priority.
