Boxers raise centre cash
Fundraising climb of Ben Lomond
Kind- hearted members of Cambusnethan Miners Boxing Club raised more than £ 500 having successfully climbed Ben Lomond to raise funds for the Craighalbert Centre.
Craighalbert is the Scottish Centre for children with motor impairments.
It is the national centre for children affected by cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions that cause difficulties with movement, balance and communication.
Based in Cumbernauld, the centre provides education, therapy and support to children and families across Scotland.
All funds raised go directly to supporting the centre’s work, particularly the additional services the centre offers, such as the Early Intervention Programme (for children aged from birth to three years and their parents), the Siblings Group (a support group for brothers and sisters of children who attend the Centre) and the hydrotherapy pool that costs more than £50,000 a year to operate and maintain.
Orla Higgins, the daughter of Anthony Higgins, a club member, has been attending the centre’s early intervention program for children under 3 since January and started the nursery full time this month.
Anne Taylor, Craighalbert administration officer, was delighted with the donation from the club.
She said: “We are very grateful to everyone at Cambusnethan Boxing Club for supporting us in this way. Many of our services rely entirely on voluntary income so this money will make a real difference to the children and families we support.”
Club secretary Pat Campbell added: “We annually raise funds for a charitable cause.
“This year we have been in a position to support a deserving charity that is close to our members hearts.”
The cheque was presented to Anne during a recent training session by Anthony Higgins and fellow club members.
