How to slay making mature eyes sparkle and shine
I’ve been asked to explain the best way to do eye make up on mature eyes - which obviously differs from person to person.
However, with the following key points to look for in your own face, this should help make life a little bit easier for you.
The first thing to do is observe your own eyes looking straight ahead into your mirror.
So hold it at eye level and take note of what you can see.
Can you see your eye lids, or are they hooded?
This is the most common problem with more mature ladies.
When you lose elasticity around the eyes it causes them to droop giving you a hooded eye.
It can make you look a bit tired, but all is not lost, not even close.
Forget the bits you can’t see and only focus on the bits that you can.
So here is how to get the best out of your fabulous peepers.
Apply a base colour to your eye area to give a nice smooth area to work with.
Use a colour similar to your skin tone and apply plenty with a big soft brush.
Next up, apply a warm neutral eye shade all over your eye lid.
Smudge it into the natural crease of your eye lid.
The warm shade will enhance your eye colour.
Don’t try to contour your eyes to fix the hooded appearance, it will only make you look over done. Work with what you have, less becomes more the older we get.
Taking an eye pencil, ideally a quite metallic one - my absolute favourite is graphite by Chanel - Line the top lash line. Don’t worry if you find it tricky to get a straight line, you don’t have too.
A smudgy line is great but work it in to the roots of your lashes. The metallic texture will reflect the light, opening up your eyes.
Avoid anything too dense or dark as it can make your lids look even heavier.
With a grey or warm shade, smudge the colour under the lower lashes.
A shadow or pencil are great to use, even both for a longer lasting result.
Don’t trace it all the way under the eyes, just the outer corners.
Mascara is your best friend so apply loads ... and then apply some more!
You will probably have read that you should avoid black mascara and shimmer products on a mature eye - but I completely disagree with both.
I find brown mascara looks wishy-washy, whereas black looks much more polished.
Shimmer products do work, IF and only IF applied to the correct place and that is top lash line in this case.
Line your waterline with a creamy or white eye pencil to brighten up your eyes.
Avoid putting anything too brown and washed out on your lips and keep the texture light with your foundation.
Apply blush to the high points of your cheek bones for a lifting effect and you are good to go.
Voila! No more tired looking eyes, just sparkling peepers that look full of life and ready to have lots of fun.
