Parent Council is warmly thanked Much hard work behind future successes of pupils

The Parent Council AGM took place on Monday, October 3.

Mr Verrecchia, chairman, highlighte­d in his report the great work of the school and our many successes over the past year.

He asked the Head Teacher to convey the Parent Council’s thanks to staff for their continued hard work on behalf of their children.

Mrs Sinclair reported on continued improvemen­t in attainment and the wide range of opportunit­ies afforded to all pupils, our determinat­ion to close the attainment gap and to ensure positive destinatio­ns for all pupils who leave Our Lady’s High School.

She also spoke about the early successes of Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce within the school, as well as the challenges for Education in the years ahead as the school and community continue work on the National Improvemen­t Framework.

A number of new parents who have joined the Parent Council were warmly welcomed.

Mr Verrecchia formally thanked a number of parents who have served on the Parent Council for many years and have now ‘ retired’ - Mrs Suzanne Graham, chair for a number of years, Mrs Clare McCarron and Mrs Margaret Dochnenko. The next meeting is Monday, November 7, at 7pm. Parents and carers are warmly welcomed.

A group of our U14, U15 and U16 footballer­s visited Valencia on September 24-26 with Inspire Sport, accompanie­d by Mrs McNeish and Miss Simpson.

In an action-packed weekend, the boys had a behind- thescenes tour of Valencia’s Mescalla stadium, coaching from the Valencia team coaches and matches against Spanish opposition. The weekend ended on a high with tickets to the Villareal V Osasuna match. The boys were praised by fellow passengers on their flight home for their good manners and excellent behaviour- well done boys! Thanks to Mrs McNeish and Miss Simpson for organising such a fantastic experience for our young people- and one day when they are playing in the Champions League, the boys might pay them back with some free tickets!

Monday, October 3, saw the start of our St Andrew’s Hospice Care Week.

Our in- school events aimed to raise as much money as possible for the Hospice.

On Wednesday the Bake Sale at morning break had lots of brilliant cakes on offer for great value. On Thursday Soak the Teacher at Lunchtime let the pupils get their own back on Mr MacMaster, Mr McHugh, Miss McGhee, Mrs Glover, Mr McGurk, Miss Halket, Miss Lees and Mr Donnachie.

The dress code for Friday’s Raffle draw and Non-uniform day was to wear as many colours as possible to promote the hospice with a £1 donation to participat­e. Raffle Tickets were sold all week and the draw was held on Friday. Final total raised to be confirmed next week.

Colin Fox, National CoSpokespe­rson for the Scottish Socialist Party, visited our Higher Politics class this week. Colin led a discussion on his own understand­ing of socialism as a political theory, socialism in action in modern Scotland and counter arguments in response to criticisms of socialism.

We are very grateful for the time he spent with us and the knowledge gained. This experience will undoubtedl­y help our young people as they progress through their studies.

S1 pupils and their parents recently enjoyed some healthy snacks prepared by the Summer school pupils with the help from Ms Mark, in the lifestyle Developmen­t Dept. The pupils were then awarded certificat­es of attendance by Mrs Sinclair.

Mrs Fitzpatric­k, PT Modern Languages Department would like to say thanks to everyone who helped with the recent visit of our Italian friends from Pistoia to OLHS.

As usual, the students enjoyed their visit very much, both in and out of the classroom.

Particular thanks to Mrs O’Donnell for her certificat­es which were very well received, to Martha for her steak pie and fish and chips and to Mrs Stemplis for her GIBOGreat Italian Bake Off...and her patience.

North Lanarkshir­e Schools Swimming Competitio­n will take place on Wednesday, November 2 at the Sir Matt Busby Sports Centre. Pupils wanting to take part must meet the qualifying times for each stroke. If any pupil would like to compete in this competitio­n then they must give their name, DOB and PB to the PE department.
