Motherwell Photographic Society Members of the society were treated to a travel talk with a difference at Holytown Community Centre on Thursday of last week when Heather Kerr, a member of Strathaven Camera Club, gave a fascinating presentation on a trip she and her husband had made to the Arctic to see and photograph the Polar bears. The couple’s journey started in Norway, where they boarded a small specialist cruise ship en route to Longyearbyen, on the remote island of Svalbard deep inside the Arctic circle. The ship sailed further north into the ice fields and they were able to photograph several Polar bears in their natural habitat and observe their behaviour. Sea bird colonies were also visited, along with an opportunity to view spectacular ice bergs and the landscape of Svalbard. This was an excellent show with superb photographs presented with great enthusiasm by Heather Kerr, who received a very hearty vote of thanks from an appreciative audience. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be the first studio portrait night of the season and members are reminded to bring their cameras. Thursday is also the hand-in night for entries into the first print competition. Wishaw Ex-servicemen’s Club Please note the club will be closed every Wednesday evening due to members not attending. Entertainment begins this week with cash bingo in the Tartan lounge on Friday and Sunday nights with a private function being held in the main hall this Saturday. Members are welcome
