Shotts Gala Day The committee will have their annual general meeting in the Station Hotel on October 19, at 6.30pm. There is a Hallowe’en disco on Saturday, October 29, in the Marble Club from 6.30pm to 10.30pm with Loony Toons Disco. Tickets cost £3 and can be obtained from Sandra, Kirsty or Elaine on the committee. There will be hot dogs on sale and lots of games, as well as prizes for the best dressed adults and children. All funds raised will go towards next year’s Gala day. Epic Studios are having a bring and buy sale on Sunday, October 23, from 10am to 2pm. The hire of a table and/ or a rail will be available to sell any unwanted items (nearly new and good condition only). Shotts and District Rotary Club members completed their annual sponsored walk around Beecraigs Park, near Linlithgow on Sunday, October 9. The total raised should exceed £600, most of which will go to local groups and organisati­ons. The Girls’ Brigade is all about making new friends, discoverin­g new things and, above all, having fun. The girls enjoy lots of different activities from crafts and competitio­ns, to drama and displays. There are also opportunit­ies for them to widen their horizons by learning new skills, gaining awards and making a difference in their local community. The youngest members are the Explorers and any girls who are in P1-3 can join in from 6pm to 7.30pm. Any girls who are in P4-7 are old enough to join as a Junior, who meet from 6pm to 7.30pm and P6-7 girls come along at 6pm to 8pm. The Juniors take on new challenges through a variety of different activities, working towards gaining badges. They will also be able to demonstrat­e how much they have learned through displays and competitio­ns. They are also able to visit a variety of different places throughout Scotland on day trips or at times for a weekend. The Brigaders are the oldest girls in the company and any girls who are at secondary school can come along on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm. The Brigaders take on more challengin­g work but there’s also lots of adventure involved. They are able to take part in outdoor pursuits and adventure sports and might even be able to go on a Brigade holiday or activity weekend. They can also work towards obtaining the Queen’s Award and various levels of the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme, which will help them to grow in confidence and develop new skills for the future. 1st Shotts Company is waiting and welcomes old and new members, and looks forward to seeing everyone at Calderhead Erskine Church Hall on Wednesday nights. EU Congregati­onal Church On Wednesday, there will be an open church from 11am until 1pm when the minister will be present. Come along for a time of quiet contemplat­ion and prayer. There will be a managers meeting tonight (Wednesday) at 7pm. On Sunday, the morning service is at 11.30am. On Tuesday nights, the singing group meets at 7pm. Lodge St John 471 The regular
