Soup and sweet lunch monthly luncheon will take place in the United Reform Church on Saturday, and the ladies are looking forward to once again welcoming everyone along to this event, which will be open from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Come along and enjoy the menu of the day with sweets to tempt the tastebuds and a chance to meet up with friends. Day Centre The members of Carluke Day Centre started off their week with a visit to Rutherglen Theatre on Tuesday of last week, followed by high tea in Carluke Bowling Club to complete a lovely outing. On Friday of this week they are off to Strathpeff­er for the weekend and the coach will leave the centre at 1pm. The winners at the games afternoon held on Thursday of last week were as follows: whist - M Burns, M Struthers, B Muir; dominoes - D Boyd, F Hill, J Hill. Mens breakfast The next men’s breakfast will take place in Kirkstyle Baptist Church on Chapel Street on Saturday, November 5, at 8.30am. The guest speakers on this occasion will be Isabel and Walter Stevenson and all will be made welcome to come along to this popular monthly morning breakfast. Poppy day Tea, toast and hot pancakes will be the order of the day at Castlehill Bowling Club for their Poppy day event on Sunday, November 6, open from 12 noon to 4pm. Come along and join in the fun with a raffle and other attraction­s on the day. Week-day service The week-day service held at St John’s Church on Thursday of last week was led by Mrs Bradley. Again, a sunny morning brought along many members of the congregati­on who took part in this short service. The kettle’s on event held in the church hall afterwards tempted everyone for a chat with friends along with their usual tea, coffee and cake. Everyone is welcome to come along to this 30-minute service which is held on Thursday mornings at 10.30am. St John’s Guild The Guild meet in the church hall on Wednesday afternoons at 1.30pm and anyone interested in attending these meetings should come along and enjoy the many speakers on their annual list. On Wednesday of this week there will be a talk given on leprosy with next week’s speaker Ivy Blair visiting next Wednesday, October 19, who will give a talk on Prospects. Come along to this interestin­g afternoon meeting where all will be made welcome. Carluke Highlander­s will hold their regular monthly ceilidh in the Masonic Hall on Friday, October 14, with the music for the evening being provided by the Keith Robertson Scottish Dance Band, starting at 7.30pm. Prize bingo Carluke Bowling Club will host a prize bingo night in their clubhouse on Thursday, November 10, with tickets selling out fast. Older People’s assembly An older people’s assembly will take place in the Lifestyles Centre next Tuesday, October 18, from 10.30am to 12.30pm. This assembly will comprise of providing informatio­n of interest to people of retirement or those coming up to retirement age, who will be able to take away informatio­n, resources and ask questions from the speakers present. To book a place at this event, contact 0169845410­5 no later than Wednesday of this week. Flu clinic will take place at St Luke’s Practice on Saturday, October 29. All patients aged 65 years and over, as well as adults and children who are on regular treatment for chronic conditions should attend from 8.30am to 12 noon for those with surnames starting A-L; and from 12.30pm to 4.30pm for those with surnames
