Community cafe is open for business as usual on Thursday between 11.30am and 1.30pm in Gowkthrapp­le Community Centre. The cafe serves tasty and affordable snack lunches and a place to enjoy a chat. There is also a take away menu. Club Sun fun day The club next meets this Sunday, October 16, in the community centre between 1pm and 2pm. All primary school aged children will be made welcome at the club to listen to Bible stories, draw, paint, make things and enjoy a snack lunch together. Newarthill/Carfin

Newarthill and Carfin Church kirk session meet for normal session business at the church tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm. Projects committee will meet in Newarthill church on Wednesday, October 26, at 7pm. This is a fundraisin­g group on behalf of the church and everyone is welcome. Coffee mornings are held at Carfin church hall every Tuesday morning between 10am and 12 noon and at Newarthill church hall each Thursday morning at the same time. The magnificen­t sum of £478 was raised at the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support on Thursday of last week and thanks go to all those who came along and supported this event and who gave so generously. Christmas fayre Donations of bottles are required for the bottle stall at this year’s Christmas fayre on November 26, and these can be left at the back of the church or by contacting Tom Murphy at Newarthill church, who will be happy to arrange for these to be collected. Guild The speaker at their next meeting on Tuesday, October 18, will be Rev E McKinnon, who will lead a Bible study evening at the church. Church club meeting held at the church on Thursday, October 20, will learn about the British Legion.
