Sheer hell at hands of the Highlanders Dalziel are destroyed by rampant Highland

-

Dalziel ................ 20 Highland ............. 62

Dalziel failed to build on their win over St Boswells last week as fell to a heavy loss to high- flying Highland.

The Inverness side have only lost once this season and started off on fine form, with Scott Fraser scoring a penalty early on.

Andrew Glover equalised for Dalziel after a high tackle on Dean Mowat.

Highland had been pressing deep in the Dalziel half, but Lewis MacSween pounced on a loose ball and set up a flowing move where every Dalziel player got their hands on the ball before the penalty was awarded.

Both teams were running hard, and tackling even harder, with the majority of the play being between the 22-metre lines.

Dalziel attacked from a lineout, and after Highland turned the ball over, Ross Donnachie was sent off for apparent use of the boot in the ruck. This would put Dalziel a man down for the remaining 60 minutes of the game.

Highland got their first try when the ball was turned over at a scrum and passed out to Cross to score. Fraser converted to put his side 10-3 up.

Over the next five minutes, Highland scored five tries to secure the bonus point. Andrew Findlater and Ben Gordon both ran in scores, and the forwards contributed a push over try.

Fraser added three conversions to put Highland 31-3 ahead with 10 minutes of the first half left to play.

Dalziel got their first try of the afternoon direct from a Highland clearance kick. Andrew Glover fielded the ball and set off up the pitch. About 10 metres from the try line he offloaded to MacSween, who powered over the line to score. Glover added the extras to take the score to 31-10 at half time.

Dalziel started the second half strongly and a speculative Glover kick lead to MacSween’s second score of the afternoon. Glover converted to make it 31-17.

A Fraser penalty and an Ian Crush try made it 48- 17 before Dougie Clark hit back for Dalziel to make it 48-24.

As Dalziel began to tire from the man deficit, Highland scored a further two tries to complete the scoring at 62-24.

The second XV were hosting Hamilton and relied on a comeback with Fraser McKenzie, Steven Rowe and Niall McKenzie all scoring to flip the game in Dalziel’s favour.

Fraser Skinner and Davie Stewart also scored to make it 24- 10 to Dalziel’s second string.

The third XV lost 49-21 to Lenzie in a friendly, while the Under-18s won again with a victory away at Alan Glens 39-36.
