Jazz Concert S3-S6 pupils from the music department attended a Jazz concert called “Mistakes Are Cool” with Richard Michael and friends in the New Auditorium, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Renowned jazz educator, presenter and performer Richard Michael, presented a free concert for schools.
The concert was a culmination of a three week jazz project aimed at developing jazz performance and improvisation skills with secondary school pupils.
All of the musicians, including the secondary pupils who took part in this project, performed in this one off concert.
Richard and his quartet performed and presented various jazz pieces to the audience and during the concert they were joined by the young musicians who took part in this project.
Performers included: Richard Michael, musical director; Tom Gordon, drums; Elliot Murray, horns; Brian Shiels, bass; and 30 young jazz musicians from secondary schools across central Scotland.
The pupils really enjoyed the performance and for some it was an inspiration for them to play and become more involved in jazz music. Remembrance Activities Pupils from nurture and XL classes took part in discussing the theme of remembrance on Armistice Day.
The groups made poppies and a display of the trenches.
The pupils were all involved in a short service at 11am.
Mr Neil Cross, depute headteacher, read ‘ In Flanders Fields’ to the pupils which was a fitting ending to the small service.
Summerlee Trip S4 Modern Studies pupils recently attended an event at Summerlee to celebrate UK Parliament week.
Pupils met Phil Boswell MP, Elaine Smith MSP and Councillor Michael McPake.
They listened to a each speaker deliver a short presentation before taking part in a question and answer session.
Kirsty Blair, Professor of English at Strathclyde University, also gave a talk on poetry and songs of the Great Reform Acts 1832-1918. ‘Brakes One Pot’ Reward S3 pupils, Brooke Struthers, Fiona Davidson and Ciara Hendrie recently visited the Tunnocks factory in Uddingston accompanied by Miss Lisa McKinstry, teacher of Home Economics. The girls were the winners of NLC’s Brakes One Pot challenge and had been invited to the famous factory as their prize. The girls were given many free goodies and thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.
Clyde Valley’s Christmas Concert An evening of music for Christmas is to be held in the school theatre on Tuesday, December 20 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £3 and are available from the school and at the door.
The event will be supporting St. Andrew’s Hospice with proceeds from the night going to the charity.
Come along and enjoy the wonderful selection of music and drama, soaking up the Christmas spirit at this festive time of year.
It will be the first Christmas concert to be held in the new school’s Assembly Hall.
