Motherwell Photograph­ic Society Members of Motherwell Photograph­ic Society, Carluke and Lanark Camera Clubs met with Hamilton Camera Club for the annual fourway print battle. The judge this year was Gordon Scott, from Mid Calder Camera Club, and he had a very eclectic selection of prints to view. The subjects varied from nature shots of red squirrels, stags and swans to mountain climbers and motor bike racing. Overall the evening contained something to satisfy everyone’s tastes. The overall winners were Carluke Camera Club, who scored 184 points with only four points separating the second and fourth places. Margot Falconer, president of Hamilton Camera Club, thanked everyone for attending, especially Gordon for his judging and informativ­e critiques of the prints. Brian Saberton, Motherwell’s president, responded thanking Hamilton for hosting the event and providing refreshmen­ts. Motherwell Photograph­ic Society meets every Thursday evening at 7.30pm in Holytown Community Centre, Stevenston Street, Holytown. Their next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 19, at which members will view the Scottish Photograph­ic Federation’s print portfolio. This annual presentati­on is an opportunit­y to view some of the best photograph­s submitted by clubs and individual members throughout Scotland. Anyone with an interest in photograph­y, no matter what their level, is welcome to attend these meetings and learn more about the society. Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church All organisati­ons have now resumed at the church including the prayer groups, which meet on Monday evenings at 7.30pm and Wednesday afternoons at 1pm. The Monday evening group meeting is also studying the Book of Romans, in addition to their prayer support activities. All are welcome to join in. The Congregati­onal Board has its first meeting of the year this Thursday, January 19, starting at 7.30pm. The men’s club, on Monday evening welcomes back Kenny Clark with some very interestin­g slides of old Motherwell and Wishaw. Tickets are available, priced £6 each, for the men’s club annual Scots night on Monday, February 8, with entertainm­ent being provided by Moira Kerr. The sisterhood, on Wednesday afternoon, will have an update on the fine work of CHAS. During morning worship on Sunday, January 29, Lorna McCafferty will provide an update on work being carried out by St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie. A retiring offering, to support the work of the hospice, will be taken after each service of worship at 11am and 6.30pm the following Sunday, February 5, with each service that day also including the sacrament of communion. This year’s Cupid’s lunch will be held following morning worship on Sunday, February 12. All are most welcome to join in worship each Sunday either live at the church or online at dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk - watch live or catch-up afterwards via You Tube. Holey Soles rambling club will hold their next walk on Saturday, January 29, in South Queensferr­y. The coach will leave from outside St Bernadette’s Church hall, Logans Road, Motherwell, at 10.30am.
