Camera Club The meeting of Carluke Camera Club on Friday of last week featured entries from the 2016 portfolios of the Scottish Photograph­ic Federation (SPF). The SPF is a network of almost 100 photograph­ic clubs from throughout Scotland and was founded in 1903 to ‘promote the art and science of photograph­y through interactio­n’. The portfolios is a national competitio­n open to clubs and individual­s, and Friday’s viewing gave members an opportunit­y to see some of the highest quality photograph­ic work in Scotland. The evening was compered by Hunter Clark, the current SPF president and member of Carluke Camera Club. This Friday’s meeting will be ‘an evening of two halves’ with John Gallagher and Mary Gibson. The meeting will begin in St Andrews Church hall at 7.30pm and full details can be found on the club’s website at www.carluke-cc.org.uk. Week-day service Despite the heavy snow, many members of the congregati­on made their way to the weekday service held in St John’s Church on Thursday of last week. Sandra Peat gave another interestin­g address to those in attendance and the kettle’s on event was a welcome place serving tea, coffee and cakes. Come along to this uplifting 30-minute service which begins in the church each week at 10.30am. St Athanasius Parish High school pupils were invited to an evening of fun, faith, friendship, food, film, and music held in the church on Tuesday of this week to encourage young people to become an important part of the parish. A mass in memory of the late Father Naughton will take place in the church on Thursday at 7pm. Winners of the December draw were as follows: Margaret Haddow £150, Charles Meehan £75, Margaret Hawthorn £50. Community council meetings are open to townspeopl­e and help keep residents up-to-date with monthly update and informatio­n. These meetings take place in the parish hall at 7.30pm and the next meeting will take place on Thursday, February 9. Monthly meeting dates can be confirmed by contacting 01555 773327. Young Farmers’ concert For three nights members of Carluke Young Farmers Club took to the stage at Motherwell Theatre to present their annual variety concert ‘Potter, Plaster and Lego House Disasters’. With a packed house each night, the club had another successful and enjoyable concert to begin the year. Chairman Andrew McGregor took the opportunit­y to thank the wonderful and talented who had worked hard to produce another show and all the sponsors for their generosity and support throughout the year. The enthusiast­ic cast, which was made up of both veteran performers and new members, entertaine­d their audiences and opened the show with a performanc­e of the song ‘Azkabanter’, bringing the night to a grand finale with their performanc­e of ‘Absolutely Bricking It’. The group also celebrated their recent achievemen­t of having won the 2015/2016 best young farmers concert award and look forward to making it a treble later this year. Carluke Young Farmers’ Club are looking for new members to join their club. The club offer a wide range of fun, challengin­g and entertaini­ng activities to help build a young person’s character. It also offers both summer and winter activities including netball, football, hockey, tug of war, quiz nights, ten pin bowling, outings and, of course, their annual concert. Helen is believed to be a retired nurse and moved to Carluke from Motherwell. She studied at Glasgow Caledonian University and ws a former pupil at Dalziel High School.

Friend Sandra Goldie posted on Facebook:“Goodnight my dearest friend Helen. Rainbow Bridge has a new nurse caring for all the animals.

“For those who knew you, a most wonderful friend. Helen was the most profession­al caring nurse I have ever had the good grace to meet. Family and children, our Helen loved them all.

“If someone needed help, or the animals needed rescuing, Helen was the first to answer.

“A loss felt by so many. Dearest Helen, I love you loads, will never forget you.

“Helen was a true ambassador for all the animals and anyone needing help. A fantastic mother, nurse, friend. Always the first to say‘how can I help you’.”

Allan Donnelly said:“So sorry and sad to hear this news. Helen will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege to share part of her life.”

Olenkai Kasaine said:“This is really sad and has caught me by surprise. Am so saddened by her loss.

“I pray for all family and friends that they may uphold the legacy she left behind.”
