Email Newarthill Parish Church is currently undergoing technical issues with the registered church e-mail address. Until this can be rectified, people are advised to use either of the following email addresses at comms@nc-church.org or sessionclerk@nc-church.org. Personnel changes The Kirk Session has accepted the resignations of Ann Pickering as session clerk and Isabelle Brownlie, treasurer. Isabelle tendered her resignation in early December, but due to unforeseen circumstances the Kirk Session meeting for that month had to be cancelled. It therefore became an agenda item at the January meeting. Ann tendered her resignation in mid December resulting in an emergency Kirk Session meeting. It is hoped that willing volunteers for these posts will be found very soon. The Kirk Session is indebted to Ann and Isabelle for the great work they have carried out during their service to the community. Magazine submissions Articles for inclusion in the next edition of the church magazine ‘The Herald’, should be with the publicity and communications committee no later than Sunday, February 5. The Guild will have a Burns evening in the company of Eddie Tweedlie and June Law at their meeting next week. Christmas quiz The winner of the recent quiz was William Allan and thanks are extended to all who entered. Answers will be printed in the next edition of The Herald magazine. Church Club The next meet of the group will be a Burns’ night with Tom McDonald on January 26. Memorial lunch A lunch was held in honour of the late Jim Eadie, a senior elder at the church following morning worship on Sunday, who passed away in July of last year. A lunch and presentation had been planned to mark his 62 years as an ordained elder of the Church of Scotland when he unfortunately took unwell and was unable to attend. However, following recent discussions with his family, Jim’s certificate was presented to them at the service by the church’s junior elder Colin Scott. A stained glass poppy was also dedicated to him during this service, which was a gift from the Kirk Session to the church in Jim’s memory to mark his service to the church, his time in the Marines and his tireless work collecting for the Earl Haig Fund and Poppy Scotland charity.
