Brothers get two years for weapons ordeal

- Ross Thomson

Two brothers have been jailed after admitting two charges including bursting into a house.

Alan and Scott Napier were caged for their part in a terrifying incident that took place at the home of Alan Napier’s former partner in Hirst Road, Harthill.

In January, Alan Napier, 27, pleaded guilty to intending to cause harm to his ex-girlfriend Jenna Sharp and her current boyfriend George Wright while brother Scott admitted possessing a knife and striking a car with it.

At the January hearing, the court heard at around 4.45pm on October 21 last year, there had been a verbal argument between Mr Wright and Scott Napier, 22, after which Mr Wright, Ms Sharp and her daughter went back home.

Fiscal depute Michael Macintosh told the court when Ms Sharp opened the door just after 5pm.

She saw Scott Napier standing next to Mr Wright’s car.

He had a kitchen knife in his hand and began scraping it along the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Ms Sharp told Alan Napier that he wasn’t getting in and that his daughter was in the house.

However, Napier went into the house carrying a rifle.

As Mr Wright spotted Napier inside the house he made his escape over a back fence.

Ms Sharp told Napier he was upsetting his daughter.

Napier apologised to their child and left. The police were then called.

Alan Napier’s solicitor Diarmid Bruce admitted his client’s behaviour was unacceptable but insisted the rifle could not have been fired as it was broken.

At the sentencing hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, both Alan, whose address was given in court papers as HMP Barlinnie, and Scott, of HMP Kilmarnock, were handed two year prison sentences.
