New faces needed at community trust group

- Ross Thomson

Major changes are on the way to the NCT Centre as Newmains Community Trust seeks a new chairperson and board members.

The centre, which opened its doors in 2015, are seeking professionals who have experience in running voluntary organisations or charities to join the board.

The Trust are also looking for people with human resources, fundraising or management expertise to take over the day-to-day running of the business side of the centre.

Outgoing NCT chairman John Harper said:“The current board were responsible for securing the £2.3 million grant from the Big Lottery which paid for the centre to be purpose built.

“We spent a long time working with architects, builders and contractors to get the centre built and with the first successful operation under our belt, we feel that it is time to take a step back and allow new people with a fresh set of skills to come onto the board.”

The formation of a new board marks a new chapter in the short history of the NCT.

Dozens of local groups now use the centre every week while the new community cafe has also been going from strength to strength.

John is hopeful that the centre will continue to thrive even after he takes a step back.

He added:“Being on the board has been a very rewarding experience and there is great satisfaction in seeing hundreds of local people coming into the centre every week to keep fit, dance classes, book clubs, parent and toddler groups, the youth club and band practice.

“Knowing that as a board member you have helped to make all this happen is very important.”

If you are interested in joining the board, send a CV and covering letter to recruitment@ newmainscommunitytrust.co.uk or visit the NCT Centre website.
