Community Council hear crime is at its lowest level

- Michael Temlett Gary Fanning

A family have rehomed a dog – and now he even helps out with the housework!

One of Dogs Trust West Calder’s Labrador cross’, a five-year-old named Bruce, has found happiness with a Cleland family.

Bruce has enjoyed life with the Owen family so much in the last six months that he has even started to do the laundry.

Bruce’s owner, Linda, revealed that their pet pooch fills the washing machine and takes it outside to be dried.

Linda was instantly won over by his unique personality and she said: “When I first met Bruce he was so happy and full of energy. Although I could tell he was a smart dog, I didn’t think he would eventually be helping me out in the kitchen.

“Sometimes I’ll be having conversations with my husband William or daughter Laura and I genuinely believe Bruce can understand every word we are saying.

“One day I asked him if he wanted to help me out with the washing and the next thing I noticed, he was in at the washing machine pulling out all the clothes into the basket.

“My family and I are adamant that Bruce is a human trapped inside a dog’s body and we wouldn’t be surprised if we came home one day and found he had the dinner waiting for us on the table.” Police said that 18 crimes in Cleland had been reported to them since the start of the year.

From January 1, there were four vandalisms, two breach of the peace incidents, two theft by housebreaking, one theft by shoplifting, one minor assault and one serious assault and seven road traffic offences, all of them being minor incidents.

When asked at Cleland Community Council’s meeting last Wednesday by councillor Robert McKendrick if crime in the area had been down, sergeant Alex Pllu said that crime was at an all-time low across the area.

“I have been to three community councils recently and Cleland has the lowest level of crime of them,” he added.

“I don’t have the exact figures year on year.

“In other areas, there have been more housebreakings and theft of bins has been a problem.”
