Judo star Nicole bags silver medal
JUDO STAR Emerging Judo star, S6 pupil Nicole Weir, recently attended the Kendal Open Championship.
At the tournament Nicole earned a silver medal in the 60 kilos category, which was especially impressive as it was her first competition.
Nicole is a great credit to Braidhurst High School and Hamilton Judo Club not only for her sporting achievement but also for her positive‘can-do’ attitude towards training and competing. U15 SCOTTISH CUP Braidhurst under 15’s run in the Scottish Cup came to a cruel end on Thursday evening as they were edged out on penalties away to St. Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch.
The visitors had dominated the game and deservedly led thanks to a well-taken goal from Dylan Morrow.
The hosts equalised from a free kick in the dying seconds of the match and then went on to win on penalties 4-1.
They now turn their attention to the Lanarkshire Cup where they hope to go one better than last year and win it.
Dylan Campbell then doubled the visitors lead with a left footed strike that found the back of the net via the post.
Duncanrig managed to halve the deficit to ensure a nervy finish to the match but Braidhurst held on to deservedly win the tie.
Mr Clarke and Mr O’Toole were delighted to see the boys progress into the quarter-finals where they will now face the prospect of yet another away tie. CONTEMPORARY PERFORMANCE PRACTICE DEGREE PROGRAMME Former pupil Holly Worton has been offered a place on the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s‘Contemporary Performance Practice’ degree programme.
Last year, in order to strengthen her skills and improve her audition chances Holly won a place at the Junior Conservatoire and has also been participating in weekly Lifelong Learning classes.
Holly’s dedication, hard work and perseverance paid off as she delivered an outstanding audition which won her a place on the conservatoire’s undergraduate degree course which she will start in September 2017. FOOTBALL UPDATE Well done to pupils Adam Kettings (S3) and Jamie Semple (S4) on their selection for the under-16 squad for the upcoming UEFA Development Tournament.
