Residents warn of dangers at junction
Fed- up residents have warned that someone is going to be tragically killed in a car smash at dangerous junction in Shotts.
Now they are calling for action to make the junction safer on the A71 Edinburgh to Kilmarnock route near to the car market in Stane Road.
Community councillor Ian McKie has been campaigning for safety improvements at the junction for a number of years.
At last month’s Shotts Community Council, Mr McKie raised the issue and warned that it was an accident waiting to happen on the road.
He said: “At night time someone is going to be killed on that. “I have received a lot of complaints about it.”
In May 2015, the Wishaw Press reported how residents called for better signage and lighting at a junction leading into Shotts.
Shotts Commu n i t y Council are calling on North Lanarkshire Council to take urgent action at the A71 Edinburgh to Kilmarnock route at the junction with Stane Road.
A North Lanarkshire Council spokesman said: “Road markings have recently been refurbished at this junction that also included the addition of four ‘SLOW’ markings on the A71 on approach to the junction.
“The junction also benefits from high-visibility borders surrounding the advanced Give Way, Give Way and No Entry signs on Stane Road.
“As with all locations, the council will continue to monitor the Police Scotland accident database in order to examine locations where incidents occur and the causations.”
