tied on points with Rossvale in fourth with two games in hand. McGroarty’s men sit 11 points off Lang at the top – but the Beltane gaffer is still convinced his side have what it takes to mount a challenge.

He said: “We’re under no illusions it will be tough for us because we’ll most likely need to win at least seven games out of eight before the end of the season.

“But we said to the boys before Saturday that they have to go out and play without feeling any pressure and they responded brilliantly.

“The top three clearly have an advantage on everyone else but Saturday showed that we are more than capable of beating anyone in that league on our day.

“The performance came as no surprise to us because we know the quality we have in our side, so now we have to keep that up until the end of the season.”

A storming start on Saturday helped Wishaw grab all three points after Misanjo raced through on goal and calmly slotted past Lang keeper Iain Stuart.

After 21 minutes, the visitors found themselves two up after Grant received a fortunate deflection right into his path and he fired past Stuart.

Lang pulled one back thanks to Hal Bohme but it was too little too late for the top of the table side.

McGroarty said: “We’re not going to be concerned with other results in the league because we know we have a tough task but it’s all about what we do.

“Outwith our dressing room, nobody expected us to challenge for promotion but we’re still looking to get a run together and hopefully climb up the table.

“We have the chance to go above Rossvale and put some distance between us and themselves but we know it will be a difficult game.

“We lost on astroturf against Benburb and it’s a similar surface at Rossvale so we’ll be working on that this week.”
