Pledge on Station Rd

- Gary Fanning

Network Rail have insisted that Station Road will be re- open before children return to school in August.

Last August the Wishaw Press reported how fedup residents faced more traffic misery as the town’s railway bridge was set to close for 11 months.

Network Rail will shut off the bridge in Station Road as they continue their £5.7m project to electrify the Glasgow to Edinburgh line.

The bridge was fully closed on September 11, 2016 and will re-open in August 2017 before the school’s new term.

But Shotts MP Neil Gray asked Network Rail for clarification following a report on BBC online that the the electrification upgrade on the Glasgow to Edinburgh line was delayed for three months.

M r G ra y w ro t e to Network Rail for Owen Campbell, Network Rail’s communications manager, Mr Gray received assurance that Station Road will re- open as expected in mid-August.

Mr Gray said: “On seeing the report, I immediately wrote to Network Rail as I was worried about any further impact a threemonth delay would have on the businesses and residents of Shotts.

“Tha n k f u l l y , M r Campbell has advised me that the work on Station Road Bridge is expected to finish in time for the schools going back in August.

“With the widening of Benhar Bridge and now the Station Road work, this area has been in turmoil in one way or another for far too long. I sincerely hope that come August the folk of Shotts will at last be free of major roadworks and be able to go about their daily lives without disruption and diversion.”
