Castlehill Bowling Club Graham Marshall reached the final and won the Clydesdale gents Champion of Champions competitio­n played at Carluke Bowling Club on Wednesday of last week with Margaret Mills also winning the ladies Champion of Champions title on the Sunday, which resulted in a double victory for the club. Congratula­tions to both Graham and Margaret. Castlehill are holding their annual charity day at the club on Saturday, July 8, with all proceeds this year to be donated to the Lanarkshir­e Cancer Care Transport. Tickets are on sale now for this event, priced £3, and these are available from the club. The event opens at 12 noon until 4pm and will include a game of bowls, a tombola, a raffle, prize bingo and afternoon tea. Monthly draw Winners of the recent SNP monthly draw were: Mrs Moore, Milledge £120; R Glasgow, Weir Place, Law £75; and M Dick, Cairnbarn Court £50. Weekday service The week-day service held in St John’s Church on Thursday of last week was addressed by Phillp Fox and those attending had another chance to meet up with friends at the kettle’s on afterwards to wish Dr Ann Jackson a happy 80th birthday. The congregati­on also sang a rendition of Happy Birthday and presented her with a beautiful cake, which everyone enjoyed to celebrate her big day. Coffee morning will be held in the church hall on Saturday, August 19. This event is being held in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice and donations of home baking would be greatly appreciate­d. All welcome. Men’s breakfast The next popular breakfast meeting will be held in St Andrew’s Church on Saturday, July 1, with a guest speaker. Breakfast will start at 8.30am, and all are welcome to come along. Day Centre The members of Carluke Day Centre enjoyed their recent coach trip to Carlisle on Tuesday of this week and next Tuesday, June 27, members are looking forward to the centre’s jubilee lunch which is being held in the Masonic Hall. Winners of the games afternoon on Thursday of last week were: whist - M Penman, J McIntyre and J Murdoch; and dominoes - J McLaren, D Boyd, and T Paisley. Holiday club With the schools closing soon for the summer holidays, plans are being arranged for this year’s summer holiday club, which takes place during the week of July 31 until August 4. This year the theme will be Brainy Ben’s Bookshop and there is still time for volunteers to give their names in order to help with this event. There are lots of activities planned for the children and if you would like to go along and provide some assistance, please contact a member of your church who is leading this year’s club. All help and assistance would be greatly appreciate­d. Anyone aged 16 years or older will be required to hold a current PVG certificat­e, and anyone who wishes to apply for one should provide their names now in order for applicatio­ns to be arranged in good time.
