St Patrick’s Picnic Group organised a very successful 91st annual outing for the children who attend St Patrick’s Primary and 1st, 2nd & 3rd year pupils from Shotts. This year’s outing took place on Sunday, June 18, with trippers travelling to Burntisland by chartered train with many other families travelling by car to take part in the outing. The children and group leaders left from St Patrick’s Church grounds and walked to Shotts railway station behind St Patrick’s Parish Band who also led the parade from Burntisland Station to the Links area, where the children enjoyed two picnics and a sports programme in glorious sunshine. This year was the first year that the present committee have organised the outing and everyone attending owes the committee a very big thank you for their dedication and attention to detail for organising a fantastic day for everyone. Thanks is also due to Police Scotland, Scotrail Station staff and train crews for their assistance on the day. As is tradition a short thanksgiving service took place outside St Patrick’s Church on the trippers return and Fr Hillary, a visiting priest from Nigeria working for the summer in the Diocese of Motherwell, proposed the vote of thanks and gave the blessing. Trippers were saddened to hear that well-known local man Billy Barton, who attended many trips, had passed away and prayers were offered for Billy and his family. Shotts tenants’ and residents association have their next meeting in Springhill Community Hall on Tuesday, August 1 at 7.30pm. For more information, see the group on Facebook.
