Boyle’s Brit test
Adam Boyle finished his Schools athletics career on a high winning his fourth consecutive national title.
The Our Lady’s High pupil set a new personal best in the senior weight javelin by throwing 54.4 metres.
Boyle then went on to the UK under 20 Championships last Saturday and took on Britain’s best.
Throwing the heavier 8 gram javelin - which was part-funded by Victoria Park AC – the Motherwell youngster produced yet another personal best of 62.44 metres in Bedford.
His top effort in the final round was enough to grab the bronze at the UK Championships.
The thrower is a member of the successful Tommy Boyle athletics squad who train at Wishaw Sports Centre.
The youngster is coached by former Commonwealth Games javelin competitor Karen Costello and she praised Boyle for his efforts.
Karen said:“Adam has worked extremely hard throughout the winter months and is now reaping the benefits.
“It was a fantastic measure of Adam’s ability, he’s still in the first year of the age group and this performance demonstrates his ability to compete under pressure and bodes well for the rest of the season.”
